A world record-breaking meeting

Day 31

A world record-breaking meeting

Such a great highlight today! We met Carlos Santamaría Covarrubias in San Luis Potosí. For two years, the Mexican held exactly the record that I would like to break at the moment. In April 2016, after 117 days and 5 hours his journey from Alaska to Patagonia ended. (The current record is 99 days and 13 hours.) During a brief coffee break in our camper, he told us about his experiences along the route. The encounter with him gives me full motivation to fight for this world record!

The team is also playing well. There is always a lot of work to do and since the border we have to deal with the language barrier. But the people here are very friendly, helpful and happy to fill in the witness confirmations. The temperatures have now dropped to a bearable level. At night it gets really cool here at almost 2000 meters.

The traffic situation does not improve at all. The trucks are still rushing by with crazy speed next to me and the roads are often very bad. That’s why I do not drive until late at night. It would be too dangerous.

We once again pitched our night spot at a petrol station. The noise level was more like an overnight stay on an airfield, but at least we were distracted from the sounds that make us thinking of a burglar in the doorway. But we are prepared: Viola’s knowledge of “Kevin alone at home” always lets us sleep a little better. But in the morning we have to put the “alarm” back in the kitchen boxes.
