Day 49

Collective cycling on a Sunday

Sunday weather in Colombia! Finally, I can report that a day started well. The wind is almost completely flat, as are the super paved roads. The better conditions result in over 100 kilometers by 10:00 with an average speed of 30 km/h.

It got even better, as many local cyclists use Sunday for their own bike tours. Fritz has already told us yesterday that cycling is very popular in Colombia and the roads get even partially closed for cyclists from time to time. After yesterday’s motivational low, it was such a treat to see so many other people on bikes. Kerstin has provided everyone with Mannerschnitten, so they have enough energy to stay with us longer. It’s just so much more fun when you’re not alone on the road and can share the joy of cycling!

The morning high was somewhat clouded at noon. It got hotter again and I had a little low. Although I must admit, that was not entirely due to the weather. My fondness for the fruit Pitaya (dragon fruit) has been my downfall. The team made a bulk purchase on one of the fruit stands along the roadside for this fruit and I ate too many too fast. Anyone who has ever eaten too much fruit, knows how I felt then. But nothing a caffeinated drink would not fix.

Therefore, I was able to enjoy the beautiful landscape again towards the end of the day. The track became hilly again, but no steep slopes. With the constant ups and downs, we still reach almost 2,000 meters above sea level.
