Day 77

Disturbed sleep

Day 77

Disturbed sleep

It was wet, cold and damp today. The initial tailwind was getting stronger, but since we had to change our direction to the Argentine border to the east, the wind soon came from the side. This biting, wet cold is terrible. My underwear is completely sweaty, but I cannot change it constantly because, with every stop, I’m completely frozen again. After the rainy wind became too strong, we had to find a sleeping place after just 190 km.

The North Continent was really just the warm-up program for the South. At first we only had grueling headwinds and now I have to ride in the rain at an average temperature of 6°C. Morover I do not take on dry clothes in the morning, but I have to wear the wet stuff again. By now, it is not really about the record anymore … Of course, I do care about the time in which I finish, but it is more important that we all arrive healthy in Ushuaia. It’s about time that the nightmare ends.

My whole body still hurts a lot because of the crash. It will take a few days until the pain is over, but overall everything is okay. The lower mileage today is certainly not due to the injuries, but to the difficult conditions.

For the first time today, we had bad luck with our choice. Due to the weather, we decided relatively spontaneously where we would stop and chose a good looking truck parking lot as we had done so many times before. At 21:00, we have set up our camp and quickly had dinner, hung up my soaking clothes and tried to dry them. Not two hours later, we were already awakened by strangers who wanted us gone. Viki tried to explain why we were here, but they were relentless: stopping in the parking lot is only allowed for trucks. Not a really restful night… We had to pack everything and find a new place to sleep. Let’s hope that was the last time someone drove us out at night.

If the weather is on our side, we will reach the Argentine border tomorrow. This one should be relatively strict as far as food is concerned. That’s why Viki and Viola took stock today and cooked up a variety of meals with everything they could possibly take away from us. A small, unexpected cooking party. Kathi’s huge purchase to prepare the buses for the South Continent is still going strong! Thank you very much! It would be really too bad if all this would be taken from us.

And before I go to bed (a second time): If you have some time, I would be really happy about your vote for Sportler mit Herz – you can vote every day!
