Day 57

Fighting a battle against the wind

At the moment I struggle everyday against this extrem headwind. To be honest, my energy level is almost at the bottom. Here in northern Peru I have to face headwind at a speed of 50 km/h. With the pedaling performance, which I normally have at 32 km/h, I get an average speed of 13 km/h at the moment. It’s so incredibly challenging. Moreover I just needed already so much strength to cycle the 15,000 km until Peru. The headwinds in the south of the USA, the daily thunderstorms and heavy rainfalls since Mexico, the many climbs in Colombia and Ecuador demanded so much energy. I knew there would be headwinds in Peru, but I did not expect, that they are so strong and make cycling almost impossible.

Today I had to stop early again because of the storm. We decided to sleep right away and will start at midnight. It is really hard for me to start the stages. I get on my bike every day because giving up is simply not an option. Right now I do not know, If I can really achieve my goal.
