Day 83

Less than 1000 km to go

Day 83

Less than 1000 km to go

Today there was a very strong side wind. If the wind turns a bit and I have a side/tail wind, I am forced to a very are low speed. If I had no accompanying car behind me, I would not dare to cycle on these roads. Since there is no emergency lane, I have to cycle on the normal lane. In this strong wind, however, a gust can easily blow me over the whole road. Even if there is little traffic, it would be far too dangerous on my own.

In general, the drivers drive very carefully and stay behind us until they find suitable places to overtake. After so many countries where the people drive ruthless, we are no longer used to this nice behavior. Apparently I draw a lot of attention as a cyclist in Patagonia. We are photographed very often and then see the results with #ice2icebike on social media.

Ushuaia is indeed very close. Now I know that I do not have to hold off anymore and can give even more power than a few days ago. Even if there are only 900 km ahead of me, I am really afraid of the wind. For Monday pretty bad headwind is announced in the forecast. My greatest fear is that I have to cycle the last few hundred kilometers against a wind wall with only 10 km/h.

Because of the many really cold days I feel a bit sickish. Fortunately, the temperature is currently not below freezing. The back warmer of The Heat Company is just great.

335 km are written in the logbook today. Tomorrow we start after a short night at 6 a.m. We have to go through Chile again and the border closes at midnight. We really want to make it across the border tomorrow. Hopefully the wind will play along.
