Day 38

Stunning high lands

Honduras surprised us all in a very positiv way. The country, about which we knew very little, offers not only incredibly beautiful landscapes but also friendly encounters with the people along the road. For a short moment we thought that we are not allowed to continue driving today. As our left headlight broke and we had not fixed it yet, a police officer wanted to confiscate Viki’s driver’s license. Furthermore he said, that we are not allowed to drive the camper anymore. After Viki explained that I’m currently on world record course, he just wished us all the best and we were allowed to move further towards the capital Tegucigalpa.

Kerstin and Viola were responsible for the duties in the camper. In addition to the daily tasks of water supply, the to-do list showed shopping for food. Especially in supermarkets you can immerse yourself in the cultural differences, as you meet the locals in a daily situation. The opposite happens in Honduras. Shopping is usually done on the market. That’s why the two girls were the only customers and felt more like in a surreal tourist attraction.

Meanwhile, Christian and Viki accompanied me in the race car through a plateau. After getting a fresh and above all airier haircut from Viki, I had to face long climbs. The streets are getting better again. By now, my buttocks really suffer from the long cycling. Although pain-relieving creams are always at hand, they bring only a short relief. It’s a mental challenge to get on the bike every day. But as long as I have the goal in front of my eyes and get the daily motivation by my team and by the messages and comments on social media channels, I give everything to come to Ushuaia.
