Day 80

The low temperatures prevail

When the sun gets you out of your sleeping bag in the morning, it’s a lot easier to start the stage than in a snowstorm. Of course, I was pretty tired from the exhausting day yesterday, but at least the weather was good. Nevertheless, the cold takes hold. Once the sun is gone, the temperatures drop below 0°C. I don’t have much energy left and these temperatures makes cycling even harder.

Viki and Viola finally got lucky today and were able to fill the gas bottle. Thanks to an adapter hose that my dad had constructed, it finally worked. Hopefully we are set now until the end of Ice2Ice. Sami was also successful and took advantage of the stay in the city of Esquel by sending fotos and footage to Vienna. Here we are far away from civilization sometimes. Therefore we often do not even get a phone signal. The landscape reminds us of Canada very much. That’s why I sometimes have to remind myself that the project has arrived at the second “Ice” and doesn’t start all over again.

I cycled 241 km today. I could have probably come further, but at all costs. Given what we are going to face in the next few days, I have to save my last strength. Here in Patagonia we could encounter such heavy storms that it would be almost impossible to continue cycling if the wind comes from the wrong direction. So keep your fingers crossed that we get lucky with the wind.

If you have not voted on “Sportler mit Herz” , I would be very happy about your vote. With the money we could support Racing4Charity and hence people who got ALS or ME/CFS with another 5,000 Euros. Thank you so much for your help!
